Who I am

I am a husband, a traveler, a mountain biker, a photographer, and lover of life. I am writing my story, chapter by chapter, year by year. This past year included marrying my best friend at sunrise at my families cottage on Pelee Island, and a trip to India to work with two incredible non profits. Get to know me HERE

What Is Wedding Storytelling?

Brides today here the term "photojournalist" and "documentary" all day long. But what does that really mean? A wedding photojournalist is a photographer who tells a story as it unfolds. A documentary is a story through images, motion, audio, or a combination of those, The reality is, while all photographers capture moments at a wedding, most are not story tellers. They capture some moments, along with lots of snapshots, and a healthy dose of portraiture.

Storytelling requires patience. Working a scene till the moment, the lighting and the composition all become a perfect photograph. Here in Pittsburgh, there is a limited number of photographers that work in this way.

With a background in journalism, and a camera that has led me on assignments all over the world, my goal on your wedding day is to tell your story. Im not there to just capture snapshots. I am there to tell your story through the loud moments like walking down the isle and seeing the bride embrace her father, as well as the quiet moments with a granddaughter sitting beside her aging grandfather, holding hands.

Every wedding in Pittsburgh and beyond is unique. While most faiths share the same general structure at their weddings, people are unique, and they are what makes up a wedding day. While my brides and grooms typically see moments as the most important thing to photograph on your wedding day, parents and other family members will undoubtedly want some portraits. This is ok. As the photographer responsible for documenting your day I do believe that portraits are an important aspect. We make this as simple as possible, and each grouping generally takes between 3-5 minutes. Yep, that means that portraits are usually done in less than 30 minutes.

Dan Speicher provides top quality wedding photography, engagement photography, and family portraits to discerning clients looking for heirloom quality photographs. Dan photographs life, love and adventure for clients in and around Pittsburgh, including Oakmont, Fox Chapel, Cranberry, Sewickley, North Hills, Wexford, Shadyside, Bethel Park, Dormont, and Mount Lebanon. Dan also works from his office in Ligonier to provide coverage to the Laurel Highlands, including Greensburg, Latrobe, Rolling Rock, Seven Springs, Bedford, and the Eastern side of Pennsylvania. Dan is available for travel to Washington DC, Middleburg Va, Annapolis Md, Philadelphia, and NY. Dan loves to travel, and is available to photograph weddings in destinations around the world.

Dan loves to photograph weddings at wonderful Pittsburgh venus like the Grand Hall at the Priory, Longue Vue Country Club, Bella Sera, Rolling Hills Country Club, Heinz History Center, The Renaissance Pittsburgh, and The Westin William Penn.
